In the fall of 1986, a group of 17 homeschool families gathered to provide encouragement and fellowship for one another. This was the beginning of the Johnson County Parent Educators (JCPE). In late 2001, the JCPE membership voted to change the organization’s name to Midwest Parent Educators (MPE). MPE has incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and has adopted official by-laws. Midwest Parent Educators is governed by a board, from which an executive committee of officers is chosen. Husband and wife serve as one member of the board, with each family unit receiving one vote. All members of the Board of Directors must agree to endorse and support MPE’s Mission Statement and Statement of Faith (listed in the official by-laws).

MPE’s VISION: To see homeschool families fulfill their God-given role to disciple and educate the next generation.

MPE’s MISSION: Midwest Parent Educators exists to EQUIP homeschooling families, ENCOURAGE home educators, PROMOTE home education, and PROTECT homeschooling freedom, all for the glory of God.

MPE has experienced growth commensurate with that of the homeschooling movement nationally. We serve homeschoolers in the greater Kansas City metro area, including many from Wyandotte, Miami, and Douglas counties in Kansas and from counties in Kansas City, Missouri.

Come get all your questions answered about homeschool curricula, learning techniques and so much more in our vendor hall. Want to bring your kids, but not sure they can handle the workshops? We’ve got you covered! Our children’s program is for ages 5-12, and registration is available at the door. In all the busyness of daily life, we can forget the reason we’re doing all this – for our children! Spend quality time with a homeschool mom who’s gone before you and is happy to share tips on homeschooling and life with little ones. Learn more about setting up a homeschool in your state, compare curricula, and more through our workshops and vendor booths. Learn from more than 60 workshop presenters who share personal, practical insights from their homeschool experience. Workshops include time-tested favorites such as how to homeschool, homeschooling high school, household management, family nutrition, and small-business entrepreneurship. Exclusive tracks are available for homeschool beginners as well as those homeschooling children with special needs.

MPE Homeschool Graduation Ceremony

Homeschool graduates from Kansas and Missouri are invited to participate in Midwest Parent Educator's graduation ceremony,  designed as a public display of the gratitude of the graduates and their parents for being given the privilege of homeschooling. It is also to demonstrate the thankfulness of the graduates for their parents, as well as other relatives and friends, who were used by God to shape the lives and character of those graduates for future service to the Master.

One of the highlights of the homeschool experience will be to see your student accept their high school diploma after so many years of work, patience, and growth in both character and education. This is a wonderfully encouraging event for both veteran homeschoolers and those considering homeschooling as members of the next generation prepare for the next stage of their lives. The ceremony is student led with a class feel, yet also personalized as parents pronounce a special blessing over their graduate.
